[ME Spring Seminar_10] Enhancing Transplantable Biomaterials: The Role of Laser Processing in Human Synchronization(5/21)

Enhancing Transplantable Biomaterials: The Role of Laser Processing in Human Synchronization Abstract Lasers, known for their monochromaticity, directionality, coherence, and focusability, have been utilized in healthcare and defense industries for over five decades. In recent years, the use of lasers in medical and biomedical devices has significantly expanded. Given that such devices are attached to the skin or implanted into the human body, it is critical to consider immune responses, inflammation control, cell adhesion and migration, and overall biocompatibility. In this presentation, I will introduce laser-based strategies developed to enhance the biocompatibility and functionality of implantable medical devices. First, I will present cases where laser-induced micro- and nano-scale surface patterning was used to control cell adhesion and migration. These techniques have been applied in the development of intraocular lenses that prevent posterior capsule opacification and vascular stents designed to inhibit restenosis. Next, I will introduce a laser-based coating technology for bioactive materials and share...

[ME Spring Seminar_08]  Acoustofluidics: Acoustics Meets Microfluidics for Biomedical Applications(5/7)

🌸[2025 Spring ME Seminar_08] ✅ Title: Acoustofluidics: Acoustics Meets Microfluidics for Biomedical Applications ✅ Speaker: Prof. Jinsoo Park│CNU ✅ Date & Time: May 7(Wed.), 16:00-17:15 ✅ Location: Bldg.110, Room N105 Abstract The past two decades have witnessed an unprecedented growth in microfluidics, lab-on-a-chip, organ-on-a-chip, single-cell analysis, and flow cytometry with applications toward chemistry, biology, medicine, pharmacy and material science. Microfluidic technologies for precise manipulation of microscale flows and suspended objects have enabled the rapid development of the aforementioned disciplines and applications. Recently, a novel microfluidic frontier, termed acoustofluidics, has emerged based on integration of microscale fluid mechanics and acoustics. In this talk, I will summarize my recent progress in acoustofluidics research from fundamentals and devices to biomedical applications. The breadth and depth of the acoustofluidic technologies will be introduced by numerous examples including cell separation,...
