This presentation explores bioaerosols, defined as airborne biological particulate matter containing a variety of allergens such as viruses, bacteria, fungi, pollen, house dust mites, and dander. Bioaerosols can cause a variety of infectious and environmental diseases, including atopic dermatitis, opportunistic infections, SARS, novel influenza, and COVID-19. They also pose risks to agriculture and livestock and have the potential to be exploited for bioterrorism, requiring a comprehensive and systematic management approach.

This presentation will introduce the development of real-time sensing technology for continuous surveillance of airborne bioaerosols, which is being carried out by the Aerosol & Particle Technology Lab at Sejong University. The presentation will also introduce an innovative system that can capture airborne bioaerosols in a highly concentrated liquid phase. Furthermore, by combining liquid-phase sensing technology with micro-optical fluidic system technology, we will explore the potential for continuous monitoring of bioaerosols in indoor environments.

We will also present our research on various photocatalytic antimicrobial filter technologies to reduce bioaerosols, emphasising the importance of developing sustainable and environmentally friendly filters.
