About Us

Greetings

Warm Greetings,

The Department of Mechanical Engineering (ME) at UNIST is actively thrusting the development of science and engineering through basic research and convergence with various disciplines: energy solutions, novel transportation, automation, control, and robotics for human convenience, micro/nanotechnology, complex multi-physical analysis, and bio-mechanical systems. Through this effort, we are contributing to maintaining the leadership of the automotive, shipbuilding, and heavy industries in Ulsan, the industrial capital of Korea, and providing significant momentum for the development of new industries, such as manufacturing technology innovations, bio and hydrogen economy.

Despite its short history, the ME Department, which started as a small group of faculty members in 2009, has achieved remarkable research accomplishments, such as the BK21PLUS Project, the Fraunhofer Project Center for Composites Research, the Center for 3D Printing Convergence Technologies, and the Center for Autonomous Unmanned Monitoring Systems, as well as educational achievements in producing professionals to various public research institutes, industries, and academia, including five university professors.

We are committed to continuously innovate to stay at the forefront of engineering education. Our faculty members strive with determination and passion in creating innovative educational and research environment to foster future world-leading Mechanical Engineers in the era of the 4th industrial revolution and convergence. As a team, the students, faculty members, and staff in the ME Department will continue to challenge to stay as front-runners in basic and applied research with the aim of making significant contributions to society.
We invite you to explore our department and look forward to the opportunity to interact with you in the near future.

Chun Sang Yoo,
Head of Department of Mechanical Engineering
