Abstract: Recently, the development of actuators, plastic/metal 3D printing, and electronic technologies have accelerated the advance of small-to-mid-sized robotic systems. At the same time, the importance of their actuators and transmission mechanisms is rising again. This seminar will introduce recent work on developing intelligent mechanisms for various compact robotics systems, including robotic hand/grippers, hand exoskeletons, actuation modules, and medical devices. The contents will be: 1) Compact variable transmission mechanism, 2) Tendon-driven hand exoskeleton control and mechanism, and 3) Robotically steerable neuro-surgical devices and guidewire robots.
