Nature-Inspired Nanotechnology and Sustainability
H. Lim
Nature-inspired surfaces has received a lot of attentions owing to their potential in diverse applications, including self-cleaning, antireflection, anti-biofouling, anti-icing, water harvesting, anti-fogging, drag reduction, structural color, etc. Natural surfaces such as the lotus leaf, pitcher plant, moth eye, butterfly wings, cicada wings, Namib desert beetle’s back, shark skin provide the design and strategy for various structures and coating techniques. Sustainability is the most important value of human life especially in environment and climate change so the high energy efficiency and resource saving is the essential issue in technology. Here, the several approaches will be introduced to save the energy and water via nanopattern and nanoparticle based functional surfaces.
