UNIST and University of Ulsan have announced on April 19 that they have been selected for the 2021 Field-linked Future-leading Human Resources Development Project, which has been promoted by the Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT). The two universities will be securing 11.4 billion won in subsidies from the government over the next five years to nurture scientific talents who will lead Ulsan, as a global center for tech innovation.

The 2021 Field-linked Future-leading Human Resources Development Project focuses on helping science and engineering college students to fully exercise convergent thinking and creativity, while leading the research process from defining the problem to planning and executing with solutions. In particular, it aims to support research and development, and operate open lectures, so that college students in science and engineering can find ways to solve problems in industrial sites.

Launched for the first time this year, the project selected only one research team throughout the nation, and the Cultivation Committee of Future Convergence Talents for Technological Innovation, comprised of UNIST’s College of Engineering and University of Ulsan’s School of Engineering has been selected.

The team has appointed Dean Sung Youb Kim (College of Engineering, UNIST) and Vice Dean Seung Hyun Hur (School of Engineering, University of Ulsan), as the heads of its project, along with a total of 51 participating professors and seven dedicated personnel. They also plan on recruiting 60 college student research teams to help them create ideas through guidance and advice from professors and industry experts.

The selected research teams will consist of students, guidance professors, and industry experts. Through this project, students will not only have the opportunity to receive quality industrial education, but also develop new skills to solve tough problems, collaborate effectively, and express ideas in new ways.

The topics for the project include: ▲ Future Mobility, ▲ Eco-friendly Energy, ▲ Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Smart Factory Technologies. These topics have been selected based on the results of the demand survey of local companies and students.
